The official agenda includes a discussion about the rule-of-law issues in certain member states.

Last week, the European Commission once again called on Poland and Hungary to answer for their violations of the rule of law.

The ministers will also discuss a potential expansion of the EU, in particular regarding the wish of Albania and North Macedonia to join the EU, as well as the EU summit meeting in December, which will focus on the pandemic.

Regarding the health crisis, Luxembourg’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean Asselborn said on Tuesday that politicians must take care of the interests of European citizens.

Asselborn stated that many citizens ask themselves a lot of questions, for instance regarding the Covid-19 certificates. The Minister also stressed that the member states must come to a uniform agreement regarding the expiry date of vaccinations.

Another major issue to be discussed during the EU summit in December is the substantial increase in energy prices.
