
Jarosław Szymczyk, the police commander in chief, was taken to hospital on Thursday when a present he received during a visit to Ukraine exploded in his office in Warsaw, Reuters reports.
But now local media have said the present was a grenade launcher and that Szymczyk accidentally fired it himself.
A statement released by the prosecutor’s office read that it was investigating “a violent release of energy that threatened the life or health of many people or property”.
The statement said three people were injured in the explosion.
There are also reports of damages to the the ceiling in the building.
