Local police carried out numerous arrests as hundreds of people gathered for an illegal party in Saarbrücken on Saturday night.

Between 400 and 500 people assembled at St. Johanner Markt for a party, flouting health measures.

A group of around 40 1. FC Saarbrücken football supporters were observed throwing glass bottles at police officers when they arrived to break up the gathering. Some party-goers were subjected to legal consequences as a result.

The events of Saturday evening could have far-reaching repercussions across all of Germany. The authorities are demanding stronger police presence and more checks, as the population has not responded to appeals for safe behaviour.
