
An important research device was deployed on Tuesday to find a missing octogenarian who had absconded from the hospital in Saint-Avold, in the Moselle department in France.
On Friday, it was announced that a body had been found beside a stream, in woodland close to the hospital.
According to Le Républicain Lorrain, the man suffered from serious health issues and had been treated in a secure unit. The circumstances of his escape remain unknown.
The alarm was raised on Tuesday afternoon around 5pm, resulting in a search of the building. Authorities were alerted once it was confirmed that the man was no longer in the hospital.
Multiple emergency units, including the Moselle fire brigade, were mobilised on Wednesday and Thursday in the search for the man. He was discovered on Thursday afternoon, near a stream by route 603.
Initial investigations indicate the death was accidental. Freyming police are leading the investigation into the exact circumstances of the man’s death.
