Luxembourg

COVID BOOSTERS - the COVID vaccination centre at Belval reopens today. Last week, the health department announced that everyone over 12 can get a second booster shot. However, it is not recommended for people who are in good health and were infected with the virus after the first recall.

UNI LU RANKINGS - the University of Luxembourg has moved up in the world university rankings. Last year, the Uni LU was ranked in the top 300, however it has now climbed up to top 250 this year. According to the Times Higher Education, the top of the ranking list features the University of Oxford, followed by Harvard. This year’s rankings feature 3 Asian universities in the top 20, with Continental Europe following closely behind with a single top 20 finisher, ETH Zurich.

NATO UKRAINE
- Luxembourg has so far given Ukraine military equipment for around 72 million euros. That amounts to 16% of the annual defence budget. Francois Bausch, Luxembourg’s defence minister is taking part in a NATO meeting in Brussels on the subject of Ukraine. Ministers have decided that Ukraine should receive advanced air defence weapons, a priority since Russia re-started its bombardments of Ukrainian cities. Luxembourg has announced it will participate financially. The meeting continues today.

World

ATTACKS ON UKRAINE, UN REACTS- And rocket and air attacks are continuing. Residential houses and civil infrastructures in various places in the country were hit in and around Kyiv overnight. At least 7 people have been killed. Staying with Ukraine - the United Nations General Assembly has overwhelmingly voted to condemn Russia’s annexation of parts of Ukraine, a move US President Joe Biden said sent a “clear message” to Moscow.

NORTH KOREA MISSILES - North Korea has continued to test missiles. This time they were two long-range cruise missiles, equipped to carry tactical nuclear weapons. Leader Kim Yong Un said it was a clear warning to the enemy. Since last month, North Korea has intensified its missile tests, which has caused further tensions with South Korea, Japan and the United States.

Sport

HANDBALL LUXEMBOURG - the Luxembourg national team lost its opening match against North Macedonia last night. The score was 24 to 38. On Sunday, it’s home against Portugal.

FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - Barcelona slipped closer to a second straight Champions League group-stage exit despite Robert Lewandowski’s double in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Inter Milan last night. Bayern Munich, Napoli and Bruges have qualified for the round of 16 in the Champions League.

While the morning will start very cloudy and dry, the afternoon will take over with some light rainfall, that follows us all the way into the evening. The morning’s temperatures start off a warmer at 7-9°C, rising to 12-16°C in the afternoon.
