A fire in a Metz-Magny field, another in Moineville... the fire services have been on high alert over the last few days, due to the heat and lack of precipitation drying out the ground.

In Metz, fire fighters were called out to a harvest fire near Metz and peltre, as flames threatened nearby residences and the undergrowth.

The fire was brought under control by 8pm on Thursday evening, after covering 10 hectares. An investigation into the cause is set to follow.

In Meurthe-et-Moselle, the small town of Moineville was menaced by flames on Thursday. T

he Républicain Lorrain stated that fire fighters were forced to use water from a restaurant’s swimming pool to prevent the spread of the fire, which was a distinct possibility due to a strong wind.

The departmental fire and rescue service said that between both fires, around 180 hectares had been affected across the region.
