The mass grave had been discovered earlier this month outside of Guadalajara, after residents were complaining about a smell in a well.
Forensic scientists have identified the human remains of 44 individuals. Body parts were cut up and hidden in 119 black bags, the BBC reports.
Jalisco, the state Guadalajara is situated in, is home to violent drug gangs. Last year there were 2,418 homicides in Jalisco state alone.
