Mass evacuation on Monday in Saxony-Anhalt, where a 250 kilogram bomb was discovered.

According to information provided by the police, more than 12,400 people had to leave their homes. Schools, elderly homes and nurseries had to be evacuated.

The bomb that dates from the World War was discovered on Monday afternoon on a construction site a few hundred metres from the main train station which was also closed.

A security perimeter of 800 metres has been set up by authorities currently working to secure the bomb. De-mining services are on site.

Around 3pm, authorities communicated that ‘defusal, if possible, will begin once everyone has been evacuated’.
