A 55-year-old man was found dead in a gruesome state on Monday, with six stab wounds, a swollen face, and a cord wrapped around his neck, according to local emergency services and news reports in the Lorraine region.

An autopsy later confirmed that the victim was violently murdered in his home.

It is currently believed that the murder took place a few days before the body was discovered. After not hearing any news from the man in several days, a friend alerted emergency services out of concern. As responders arrived at the scene, the man’s lifeless body was discovered.

The Metz public prosecutor’s office has since opened a judicial investigation into the murder. As the victim’s apartment showed no signs of forced entry, authorities believe that the victim must have known the killer.
