According to Trier police, the woman was jogging in the forest near Waldweiler at 6.30am on Friday morning, when she encountered a 21-year-old man armed with two knives. Although he threatened her, she was able to run away unharmed without him giving chase.
Hermeskeil police officers found the man in the forest, but he ran away, dropping his knives on the ground. Thanks to a description of the suspect, officers were later able to locate the man at his home at around 8am, where he was taken into custody without resisting.
Police say the young man likely suffered a psychological breakdown, but noted that he cooperated with officers during his arrest. He has since been placed in a psychiatric unit and will be investigated for the threats.
