Trier police confirmed an attempted homicide had taken place at the 40-year-old woman’s home on 17 December. Initial reports say the woman received a visit from her 21-year-old work colleague at around 4.30pm. The two were thought to be alone at the residence when the man attacked the woman with a knife, before shooting her with a compressed-air-operated mini speargun he had brought to the house, leaving her with serious injuries.

Police say the man then turned the weapon on himself.

Despite her injuries, the woman was able to leave the residence and alert the authorities. She was treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to hospital for emergency surgery.

Her attacker was also taken to hospital for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries overnight and was confirmed dead by police on Monday.

Trier police were unable to give further details about the lead-up to the incident or the perpetrator’s motives, nor were they able to confirm the exact nature of the crime. An investigation has been opened.
