The fatal accident occurred at Maisons-Alfort-Alfortville station. According to BFM-TV, two men attempted to steal the bag of a traveller who was waiting for the train.
During the altercation, one of the attackers fell onto the tracks and was fatally hit by a TGV. The tragedy took place shortly after 8 pm.
The victim of the attempted theft fought against the assailants and pushed one of them back, causing him to fall onto the rails. At the same time, a train bound for Lyon was passing by, making the collision unavoidable.
Three witnesses were questioned, and two people were taken into police custody. The second attacker is under investigation for theft, while the victim of the attempted theft is under investigation for violence leading to unintentional death.
