The driver was stopped on the A31 motorway while trying to sneak the goods across the border.

The Meurthe-et-Moselle police department confirmed on Monday that the delivery van was stopped at the Gye toll booth, where authorities discovered 8.110 kg of tobacco from Luxembourg inside the vehicle. Officials further conveyed that the driver was under the influence at the time and that the van was not properly insured.

The driver in question will soon have to appear in front of a judge. He was awarded a €2,000 fine by the customs office for the illegal transportation of the goods from the Grand Duchy to France.

The police department subsequently issued a reminder of the limitations in place: 10 large packs of cigarettes, 250 gr of rolling tobacco, 100 cigarillos, and 50 cigars per person.
