UN report Majority of human trafficking victims are sexually exploited

According to an UN report, the majority of people who fall prey to human trafficking are sexually exploited.

The report analyses draws on statistics from 2016. 60% of human trafficking cases see the victims plunged into sexual exploitation. This trend is mainly observable in America, Europe and Southeast Asia.

34% are modern slaves who are usually forced to work in Africa and the Middle East.

In 2016, the report further reads, 25,000 human trafficking victims were identified, representing a 39% increase in comparison to 2011. This statistical rise is mainly due to increased efforts to fight human trafficking.
