Floods in the NetherlandsMaastricht houseboat adrift, collides against bridge following dam damage

RTL Today
During the night from Wednesday to Thursday, a houseboat in Maastricht broke loose due to damage to a dam and subsequently drifted, colliding against a bridge.

This incident took place at the same location where a part of the dam was washed away on Wednesday. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene.

Both the houseboat and the bridge sustained damage from the collision. As of now, the houseboat remains stuck to the cordoned-off bridge. The exact cause of the houseboat detachment is yet to be determined. A spokesperson from the regional safety authority suggested that it might be a combination of how it was secured and the rapid water flow.

The fire department had to help move several houseboats before this because of the damaged dam on Wednesday. According to the fire department indicated approximately 30 houseboats are situated near this dam. Residents are temporarily unable to return to their homes.

The situation remains under investigation as authorities and rescue teams work to determine the cause of the incident and mitigate any further risks arising from the damage to the dam in the area.
