Tragedy struck in France’s Vaucluse region. A 60-year-old Luxembourger died on Monday morning after an explosion destroyed his house in Villelaure, a village in France’s Vaucluse department. Firefighters recovered his dead body from beneath the rubble. No other victim was found.
According to La Provence, the reasons behind the explosions remain unclear but there are indications that the incident was gas-related. 80% of the house was destroyed, a firefighter told La Provence. The blast sent bricks flying, causing damage to neighbouring houses.
The expat had left Luxembourg several years ago and was well-known in the grieving village community.
