According to initial investigations, a 27-year-old Luxembourg resident was driving on the B419 towards Nittel. The driver attempted to overtake another vehicle and failed to see a car approaching in the opposite lane.
The two cars violently collided near the village of Rehlingen. The Luxembourgish driver suffered severe injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was also injured. Both victims were brought to the hospital in Trier.
The road between Wincheringen and Nittel was closed to traffic for more than one hour.
