A drone hit an apartment building in the Romanian city of Galati early on Friday morning, wounding two people and drawing condemnation from the Atlantic alliance and the European Union, which blamed Russia and warned against further incursions.
Drone incursions in NATO member Romania, which neighbours Ukraine, have been detected dozens of times since the start of the Russian offensive, but the crash marked the first time a residential building has been hit in the country.
Other NATO members have openly condemned the act, with France and the American NATO ambassador calling it an irresponsible act and invasion of Romanian airspace.
The Luxembourgish foreign ministry joined the chorus of voices criticising Russia on Friday morning, calling the act a dangerous and irresponsible escalation in a post on social media:
The foreign ministry added that Luxembourgish troops are currently stationed in Romania, and that they would continue to work on strengthening security with their allies. More pressure must be put on Russia to bring the war of aggression with Ukraine to an end.
Prime Minister Luc Frieden also responded to the incident, promising Romania "full solidarity" in the wake of the "reckless" attack. He went on to condemn Russia's continued war of aggression against Ukraine, as well as all attacks on civilian targets.
