A heavy goods vehicle caught fire on the A1 motorway towards Paris-Lille, at the Chamant toll in France.

The lorry caught fire at the toll at around 9am on Tuesday morning, after the driver attempted to evade police in a high-speed chase on the motorway.

The lorry was pursued when the driver refused to stop after an accident at Roye, in the Somme. He ended his run in a toll barrier at Chamant, and caught fire.

According to the Courrier Picard , traffic was interrupted for several hours. The fire was eventually brought under control by firefighters at 10.30am. The road has since reopened.
