The police used flashing beacons and sirens to let the hospital staff know they were not alone in a show of support.

However, the action divided opinion online - while some applauded the initiatives, other Internet users expressed concern for patients, as sirens are commonly associated with emergency situations.

Another daily initiative that is gaining momentum, and is certainly less controversial, is the 8pm applause.

In Italy, Spain and France, confined citizens meet every evening to applaud for a few minutes in a show of support for healthcare staff and their efforts against the coronavirus.
