£115,000 allowanceLiz Truss eligible for life-long pay

Despite her short-lived time as the UK's PM, Lizz Truss will receive a yearly £115,000 allowance along with other financial benefits.

Six weeks into her turbulent service at Downing Street, Lizz Truss resigned from the position of Prime Minister in the midst of an economic crisis, only worsened by a series of the political reforms ordered by her government.

Nonetheless, she will claim a yearly £115,000.

The Public Duty Costs Allowance (PDCA) gives out such grants to all former Prime Ministers. The yearly allowance is aimed to pay back for expenses spent during the public service. The only requirement is to have been a former Primer Minister, which Truss qualified for despite setting the record for the shortest political service in Britain’s history.

This yearly allowance is received until the end of one’s life. In addition, she is entitled to a pension allowance of up to 10% of the yearly allowance.

Truss is the sixth Prime Minister who receives this compensation, enacted in 1991 by Prime Minster John Major after Margaret Thatcher’s resignation.
