The angler in Briey aimed to fish for pike, but instead, he pulled a man’s lifeless body out of the water.
According to estimates by the local police, the man must have been 45 to 50 years old and he had been submerged in the lake at a depth of multiple metres, reported the Républicain Lorrain.
The area was cordoned off immediately. According to the initial steps of the inquiry, the victim had spent 24 to 48 hours under water. There were no signs of injuries inflicted by a weapon.
The body has been transported to Nancy for an autopsy. By late Monday evening, the identity of the man was still unclear and there are no missing persons reports for a man of that age.
