Fresh out of hospital, Luxembourg’s Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Jean Asselborn has warned the British that no, Europe will not be renegotiating the Brexit agreement.

This response was addressed in particular towards the Tory leadership and Prime Minister candidates. Poll favourite Boris Johnson and some of the other potentials have announced their hopes to pressure the EU for better starting conditions.

“I think they’re wrong,” he said on Monday at an EU meeting. “We had a good deal (editor’s note: the one rejected by the British on multiple occasions) and no further changes can be made.” Asselborn conceded that perhaps some details could be negotiated, the UK can only really “take or leave” the agreement.

With only one exception, all the remaining candidates are taking the same political stance regarding this autumn’s withdrawal: they will pull the UK out of the EU on 31 October, with or without agreement.
