MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS - According to police reports, there were several accidents, resulting in injuries yesterday evening. Three people were injured at around 5.20pm, when two cars collided between Linger and Bascherage. Shortly prior to this incident,two people were injured in a collision between a car and a motorbike on the CR186 between Luxembourg City and Kockelscheuer. Around 7.30pm, a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in Bonnevoie.

CNS REIMBURSEMENT - The average delay between a doctor’s visit and receiving CNS (National Health Fund) reimbursement is taking 56 days on average, according to the Minister of Health and Social Security, Martine Deprez. This is particularly a problem for low income households.

FIRST COMMUNION - Many of Luxembourg’s Catholic children celebrated their First Holy Communion yesterday. This day is marked by receiving gifts and spending time with family. According to MultiTecc, where gift lists are registered, rosary beads, bibles and makeup cases or books are slowly disappearing from wish lists. Today, they tendency is to gift more luxurious items such as tablets, phones, and other pricier items.

ISRAEL-HAMAS WAR - Palestinians have begun returning to the city of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, following the withdrawal of Israeli troops. Israel’s defence minister says they have left in order to prepare for the next stage of the war against Hamas. That could include an assault on Rafah in the south, where more than a million Palestinians are sheltering.

FRANCE MURDER - Two brothers and two other young people have been charged with murder over the killing of a 15-year-old boy near Paris. Two of the accused -- a 20-year-old and a minor -- were jailed, while the other two minors were held in pre-trial remand for beating the victim to such an extent on Thursday, that he died shortly afterwards in hospital.

BOEING ENGINE COVER - Air safety investigators in the United States are trying to find out why the casing of an engine ripped off during a passenger flight from Denver. Online video shows the protective cover flapping against the wing of a Boeing 737, as it returns to the airport. The South West airline’s plane landed safely. Noone was hurt.

SOLAR ECLIPSE - Mexico, the USA and Canada are preparing for a total solar eclipse, which will pass over the countries during the day. More than 30 million people live in ‘the path of totality’, where the moon blocks out light from the sun. The eclipse will start over the Pacific Ocean and pass through 15 US states, including Texas, Illinois, New York and Maine.

Sport

CYCLING - Mathieu Van der Poel has won the Paris-Roubaix race. The Dutch world champion did the last 60km alone yesterday, and is celebrating his second victory of the race, known as ‘the Hell of the North', crossing the line exactly 3 minutes ahead of the nearest chasers.

FOOTBALL - Starting in Luxembourg, it was the 23rd matchday yesterday. Among the games played, the leader Differdange won 2-0 against Mersch. Hesperange beat Käerjeng 3-1, and is now level on points with F91 Dudelange. The last 8 teams are preparing for the quarter-final draw, taking place at lunchtime today. The cup final will take place at the Stade de Luxembourg on 9 May.

In other results, in the German Bundesliga, Gladbach won 3-1 against Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim also won 3-1 against Ausgsburg. In the French Ligue 1, FC Brest beat Metz 4-3.

In England, the top match between Manchester United and Liverpool ended in a 2-2 draw.

And in Italy, Juventus won 1-0 at home against Florence.

And in Formula 1, Max Verstappen cruised to victory ahead of Sergio Perez in the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday, as Red Bull claimed a one-two finish for the third time in four races. The triple world champion has taken an early stranglehold on the world championship, ahead of the fifth race in China in two weeks.

Weather

We’ll have overcast skies with the odd bit of sun peeking through, but there is a chance of light rain showers in the afternoon. The breeze could reach gusts of up to 50 km/h in parts as well. Make the most of the spring-like temperatures though, as a cold front is set to return tomorrow. Temperatures start at 10-12°C this morning, rising to highs of around 23°C as the day goes on.
