An investigation has been opened after a body was found near the Mariensäule in Trier.
According to preliminary information, a woman contacted police after discovering something suspicious while on a walk just below the monument. A subsequent check revealed that it was a body, which was recovered by the firefighters.
As the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear, police have launched an investigation.
