Maison du Luxembourg in ThionvilleInformation hub for cross-border workers

Christophe Wantz
Inaugurated in September 2006, the Maison du Luxembourg in Thionville is a hub to showcase the Grand Duchy in the northern Moselle region. For 13 years, the information centre has answered questions for many cross-border workers.

In a good example of cross-border cooperation, the Maison du Luxembourg is a public service dedicated primarily to active cross-border commuters in the Grand Duchy, providing the answer to everything pertaining to social legislation, labour laws, training, taxation or even job hunting. It facilitates administrative procedures by providing all types of forms in collaboration with the Luxembourg authorities concerned.

Thanks to a strengthened collaboration with the Children’s Future Fund and with Cedies, the Higher Education information centre, the Maison du Luxembourg supports cross-border workers with applications for family benefits and scholarships. or studies, supplying appropriate folders and forms. They also provide support for taxes with Luxembourg Inland Revenue forms and lists of tax experts to help with tax declarations.

The Maison du Luxembourg can also support cross-border workers in dealings with the National Health Fund and the National Pension Insurance Fund.

Finally, defending the rights of border workers is another of its missions, made more important since the number of French border workers in Luxembourg exceeded 100,000. The organisation provides contacts and documentation for trade unions (OGBL and LCGB) or cross-border associations like AFAL, and handled 18,550 cases in 2018.
