On 7 May, a Hungarian fugitive convicted of serious sexual offences against a minor was arrested in Tenerife, Spain, following tips from the public submitted through the EU Most Wanted platform, and is now awaiting extradition to Hungary.

The fugitive involved is a 37-year old man, who got arrested three days after his profile was published on the website. He has now been sentenced to eight years in prison by the Budapest Metropolitan Court and was sought by Hungarian authorities.

An anonymous tip submitted via the website revealed the suspected hideout of the man in Spain. The lead was quickly confirmed and followed up through close coordination between the Hungarian FAST team, European Network of Fugitive Active Search Teams (ENFAST) contact points, and the Spanish police.

Backed by Europol and ENFAST, the EU Most Wanted platform helps law enforcement agencies identify and locate fugitives linked to serious and organised crime throughout Europe. It further allows police forces across Europe to share details of high-risk fugitives and gather information from the public to support cross-border investigations.
