
HOUSE PRICES - Recent figures shared by property website atHome.lu reveal that a historic trend is beginning to unfold on Luxembourg’s housing market: sales prices are in decline. Between January and March, average price listings have fallen by 5%, the first decline since 2008, according to atHome CEO Saadi Soufiane. He said that existing flats have become 4% cheaper, while new ones have seen an even greater drop of 8%. In contrast, the rental market in Luxembourg is experiencing an opposing trend, with rents rising by 8.7% during the first three months of the year.
MIGRANT RESCUE - Italy’s coast guard is trying to rescue 1,200 more migrants aboard two boats on the Mediterranean Sea after saving about 2,000 already over the weekend. According to the coast guard, the rescue of about 800 migrants on an overloaded fishing boat is ongoing, while around 400 are on another boat. This boat, which is believed to have set out from Libya, was still without help last night. Migrant arrivals to Italy have risen steeply compared to the same period last year, despite efforts by the right-wing coalition government to clamp down on irregular migration.
KENTUCKY SHOOTING - A man who shot 5 people dead at a bank in the US state of Kentucky was an employee there. Police have also confirmed that the gunman live streamed his attack in Louisville on social media before being shot and killed by officers at the scene. After an initial death toll of four, Louisville authorities announced in the evening that a fifth victim, a 57-year-old woman, had died of her injuries.
FRANCE RESCUE - Rescuers have found two more bodies in the rubble of a building that collapsed in an explosion in the French city of Marseille, bringing the total death toll to six, with others still missing.More than 24 hours after a suspected explosion at the building, where residents reporting a strong smell of gas, dozens of searchers and dogs worked among the debris as a fire still smouldered underneath. But the mayor of the Mediterranean port city said rescue workers were still optimistic they could find survivors.
BIDEN IRELAND - President Biden will arrive in Belfast this evening as he begins a tour of Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic. The visit marks the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement being signed. Biden will be welcomed by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
MACRON NETHERLANDS - French President Macron is heading to the Netherlands today for a state visit, which will include a speech on the future of Europe. Macron, freshly returned from a visit to China last week, sparked criticism after saying in an interview published Sunday that Europe must not be a “follower” of either Washington or Beijing on Taiwan.His comments threaten to overshadow a two-day visit to the Netherlands that is meant to highlight a new dynamic between Paris and The Hague after the turning point of Brexit.

WOMEN’S WORLD CUP - FIFA has predicted the women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand will be a “watershed” moment that propels the game to another level, with the target to eventually rival the men’s version. With 100 days till kick-off, FIFA’s chief women’s football officer Sarai Bareman told NewsCorp Australia in comments published Tuesday that more than two billion viewers were expected to tune in, double the previous tournament in France, won by the United States.Record attendance is also predicted, with 650,000 tickets already snapped up. The next phase of sales opens today.
