A head-on collision between two buses in Saarbrücken on Monday left at least 33 people injured, including several children, according to the Saarland State Police.

Nine people sustained serious injuries, while 24 suffered minor wounds. A total of 28 people, including a group of 12 kindergarten children, were taken to hospital.

The accident occurred in the morning at an intersection. At the time of the crash, 41 people were on board the two buses, including the kindergarten group.

Emergency services treated the injured at the scene, and both bus drivers were among those hurt. A rescue helicopter was deployed, and the affected intersection was completely closed during the operation.

Initially, police had reported 25 injuries. The cause of the collision remains unclear, and an expert has been tasked with determining what happened. Both buses sustained severe damage, with police estimating the total cost in the mid-six-figure range.
