Thanks to our colleagues over at 5minutes, we are back for more positive news this weekend.

Our colleagues over 5Minutes had the brilliant idea of spreading positive vibes amongst all the, sometimes overwhelming, negative news. This week, we have a local and regional bulletin.

In the face of global warming, Luxembourg has officially presented its objectives for 2030. They include a decrease in CO2 emissions, an increase in renewable energy sources, clean construction and higher fuel prices, to name a few. For more detailed information, click right here.

Moving on to neighbouring France, Ambroise Paré hospital has come up with a rather clever initiative: they have now made small electric cars available for young patients about to undergo surgery. The idea is simple: to remove focus from the stress and worries of surgery, children can drive themselves to the surgical department. See the video below:

On a different note, three Estonian farmers rescued what they thought was a dog who had fallen into the freezing cold waters of a river. When they took the animal to the veterinarian, they found out that they had, in fact, rescued a wolf! The wolf was released the same day.

On a trip to Geneva, Jean Asselborn announced that Luxembourg will contribute to the humanitarian aid in Yemen by allocating “at least €1.75 million to help those in need”. A reported sum of €4 billion was collected as part of the conference.

We’re sure you’ve heard of the chubby rat stuck in a manhole cover.. but just in case you haven’t, here’s what happened: if you’ve ever wondered how many firefighters it takes to rescue a rat stuck in a manhole cover, the answer is seven. Thanks to the seven firefighters dedicated to the animal’s welfare in Frankfurt, the rat was released and seemed to be in good health.

Last but not least, even if not all might agree that this is good news, cigarette prices have risen once again in France. If that isn’t good news for the health of the public, we don’t know what is.. also, although we’re hesitant about mentioning this, it is good news for tobacco vendors in Luxembourg, too..
