According to Thames Valley police, a gang broke into Blenheim Palace in the early morning hours on Saturday and stole the golden throne, which is part of an exhibition by Italian conceptual artist Maurizio Cattelan.

The toilet, which boasts the name “America” has not been found yet but one suspect has been arrested, the BBC reports.

The removal of the lavatory caused damage and flooding. Visitors had been free to use the toilet - at a three-minute limit to avoid queues. Last month, the half-brother of the current Duke of Marlborough had stressed that it was “not the easiest thing to nick.”

The toilet had previously been on display at the Guggenheim museum in New York. It was also famously offered to Donald Trump in 2017.

Investigations are ongoing.
