In the fight against drug trafficking, Germany certainly has cause for celebration. The police in Trier announced Friday morning that they found several packages containing about 100,000 ecstasy pills. The whole stock was concealed in sports bags and weighed 39 kg in total.

A trucker had picked up a hitchhiker who, it transpired, was attempting to transport the drugs to Turkey from the Netherlands. Thanks to the driver’s diligence, the police were able to intercept the smuggler last Monday.

The suspect will be presented to a judge on 30 May. The trucker was able to resume his journey after answering investigator’s questions.
