Of that number, 360,000 are children. Given the measles outbreak, an additional 220,000 hospital and GP surgery employees would also be forced to be vaccinated.

The German Minister of Health Jens Spahn is considering further steps to ensure measles is eradicated. Spahn was a guest on TV channel ARD’s Tagesthemen show and highlighted that the whole issue is a question of general health protection. The CDU politician warned that, despite intense awareness campaigns, to date, the necessary vaccination quota has not been reached.

As a result, Spahn has proposed a law on compulsory vaccinations. This draft law would come into effect in Germany as of 1 March 2020. Those disregarding the law, especially parents, could face fines of up to €2,500 and risk their children’s exclusion from childcare institutions.
