From limitless to 130 km/h?German Bundestag votes against motorway speed limits

RTL Today
Most countries limit the speeds at which motorists can drive on motorways, with only Germany failing to do so in the EU. 70% of German motorways allow drivers to go, in theory, as fast as they want.

Implementing speed limits on German motorways is an endless quandary in our neighbouring country, which sometimes devolves into rather heated discussions. Now, the Greens requested a vote on introducing a speed limit of 130 kilometres per hour as of 1 January.

However, the German government has so far rejected the measure in spite of its commitment to increase climate protection. The automotive industry is by far the biggest industry in Germany.

Despite the attempt to change the nature of Germany’s speed limits, the Green venture was ultimately unsuccessful. The Bundestag voted against the proposal, thus keeping the limitless motorways.
