Staff at Madrid Zoo have come up with a range of measures to help animals stay cool during the current heatwave, with temperatures climbing to around 40°C.

As Madrid faces soaring temperatures of around 40°C, not only people but also animals are struggling with the intense heat. The team at Madrid Zoo has introduced a number of strategies to keep its animals as comfortable as possible during these sweltering days.

Among the solutions are special treats tailored to each species. For pandas, the keepers serve frozen fruit and bamboo leaves, while monkeys enjoy their share of frozen delicacies. Tigers and seals, meanwhile, receive icy portions of meat or fish suited to their diets. In addition to these refreshments, the tried-and-tested method of a cold shower is also used to provide relief from the relentless sun.

The video shows how various animals at Madrid Zoo are keeping cool as the heatwave continues.
