Bus company Flixbus confirmed on Saturday that it had suspended an Italian driver with a tattoo of Hitler’s book ‘Mein Kampf’, after an avalanche of criticism on Twitter triggered by a passenger.
According to AFP, the driver, an employee of an Italian company under contract for Flixbus, was suspended upon arrival in Bergamo. Raphael Daniel, spokesman for Flixbus, confirmed this.
User @aghantros on Twitter alerted both the company and other followers by posting a picture of the tattoo. An avalanche of reactions followed, forcing the company to fire the driver.
“Please note that FlixBus is proud to be a multinational with a multinational team and that drivers from all cultural sectors work for us,” the company wrote on Twitter. “We therefore do not accept any discrimination of origin or religion towards our customers or our employees.”
Mr. Daniel acknowledged the “unfortunate wording” of the tweet, with the company intending to demonstrate a zero tolerance policy towards such issues.
