Firefighters in Munich's Langwied suburb were called out on Monday evening to rescue hundreds of fish and several ducks after a local pond, home to numerous carp, was left almost entirely dry due to prolonged heat and drought conditions.
The emergency response involved using a water cannon fed by a hose of over 160 metres in length to refill the pond, which took about an hour. Firefighters shared details of the operation on Tuesday via social media, highlighting the urgent need to intervene as the remaining water had shrunk to a mere puddle.
The drying pond not only threatened the fish but also created difficulties for local ducks. With the water level so low, the ducks could no longer reach their stilted nesting platform. After concerned residents reported the situation, firefighting crews were dispatched, quickly managing to restore the pond to a safer level and stabilise the situation for the animals.
