According to Kaiserslautern police on Monday evening, the firefighters had to dig into the ground to get the pipe out of the ground in a rescue operation on Sunday. Once the pipe was pulled out, firefighters cut open the pipe to finally free the 17-month-old, who was trapped inside.

The toddler was thankfully uninjured in the process. According to the police, the toddler and his brother had been playing in the garden on Sunday afternoon. The children removed the cover of the pipe and the toddler fell in, becoming trapped until the emergency services intervened.
