Another timely intervention by the fire service resulted in the rescue of Jazz, a German Shepherd who fell down a well while on a forest walk. The dog was recovered safe and sound by a team of fire fighters and animal rescue operatives, using climbing equipment to scale the well, which was 1 metre wide and 3 metres deep.

Following the incident, the fire service reminded the public that the forest can be treacherous, with obscure dangers throughout. This is particularly true of the Metz region, which has a number of ruins and abandoned war forts scattered across the area. Anyone venturing into the forest should ensure they carry a mobile phone, and make their nearest and dearest aware of their whereabouts.
