This information emerged from a draft of the Strategic Agenda until 2024,which is currently in the possession of German new agency dpa.
According to said document, the EU has to become more confident and should obtain more power. The door should also be open for potential new member states. The document, which is schedule to be presented at next week’s EU Summit, follows along the same lines as previous proposals. It doesn’t seem like there will be significant changes or new initiatives. The draft will be debated by the 28 member states and can still be amended.
Despite the Youth for Climate protests and the debates during the EU electoral campaigns, there don’t appear to be any new targets regarding climate protection. In terms of the protection of citizens and their liberties, the document states that controls of the outer borders and the struggle against illegal migration should become more efficient. Other mentions include the fight against cyber attacks, misinformation and the protection of the rule of law.
To support the economic base of the union, the document suggests digital upgrading of the economy, as well as, ambitious and coordinated industrial policy.
