Earlier this month, Kyiv agreed to an EU scheme to exchange old-fashioned incandescent light bulbs for more energy-efficient LED ones.
On Friday, Ursula von der Leyen, president of the EU Commission, launched the initiative on a visit to Ukraine. She was accompanied by Ukraine’s prime minister, Denys Shmyhal.
In total, 35 million LED bulbs will be provided free of charge. Every Ukrainian will be able to exchange up to five incandescent bulbs for the modern alternative.
The bulbs can be reserved and collected through local branches of the Ukrainian post office.
