The European Commission has announced new, stricter regulations for food products following the recall of baby milk across the European Union. These measures are intended to improve consumer safety and prevent future incidents of contamination.

According to the Commission in Brussels, manufacturers will now be required to test all infant formula, milk powder, and medicinal foods for babies for the toxin cereulide before these products can be placed on the EU market. This compulsory testing aims to reduce the risk posed by this harmful substance.

Earlier this year, approximately 60 countries had to recall products after it was discovered that they were contaminated with cereulide, resulting in several children falling ill.
