TrierEmergency services escort family of swans across city

In a turn of events that ruffled more than a few feathers, the police and fire brigade of Trier, Germany, found themselves on a mission of a different kind. Instead of dealing with a robbery or a house fire, they were tasked with helping a family of five swans navigate the city streets.

On a sunny Thursday morning, motorists and pedestrians were left gobsmacked as they spotted a pair of swans, accompanied by their three cygnets, waddling their way from Mattheiser Weiher to the Moselle riverbank. The feathered family had chosen a perilous path, crossing several busy roads.

But fear not, for Trier’s finest were on hand to ensure their safe passage. The police and fire brigade personnel were seen escorting the swan family, a sight that was shared on the Trier police’s Twitter account.

The tweet was well-received, garnering hundreds of likes and even a comment from the Berlin Federal Police, who humorously questioned whether their hashtag should be #WeForTrier or #WeForTier, punning on the German word for animal.

In a world where news often leaves us feeling down, it’s heartening to see our uniformed heroes going above and beyond, even if it’s for our feathered friends.
