
As the Républicain Lorrain reports, the city centre was very busy on Sunday as shops were open exceptionally to mark the end-of-year festivities. Near a larger clothes shop, the tourist train driver failed to see an elderly woman crossing Rue Serpenoise. The victim was hit by the train and dragged to the ground.
Both pedestrians and people on the train rushed to provide help to the woman hit by the train. The municipal police closed off the area to allow emergency services access to the scene. The woman was seen to by firefighters merely minutes after the accident occurred.
The accident marks the third road accident in Metz’s city centre in the space of several days.
