The driver of a Luxembourg-registered SUV died on a Belgian motorway on Thursday morning. Police reported that he was distracted by his phone at the time of the crash.

The accident took place on the A12 towards Antwerp, near Schelle, according to Belgian news outlets.

The driver of an SUV registered in the Grand Duchy was driving at high speed and did not notice a traffic jam forming ahead. The vehicle hit a truck, before crashing into a concrete wall.

Police reportedly found that the driver’s mobile phone still in his hand, according to Sudinfo .

Paramedics were unable to revive the 41-year- old man, who died on impact.
