
On 25 January 2022, Mondelange customs intercepted a van carrying 1,800 litres of alcohol - 950 litres of vodka and 849.4 litres of whisky with a total market value of €15,000 excluding VAT, newspaper Republicain Lorrain reports.
The 44-year-old man explained to police that he worked for a transport company and that his boss paid him €250 per trip to transport the bottles from Luxembourg to Paris. In Paris the alcohol was sold to different shops.
The defendant stated that in total he had made 14 trips, which investigators were able to confirm. He also explained that it was his boss who had purchased the goods and would drive ahead of him in another vehicle.
The driver was sentenced to a customs fine of €41,000 as well as a six-month suspended prison sentence. Charges of money laundering were however dropped.
