The French Ministry of the Interior has confirmed that a cyberattack targeting the agence nationale des titres sécurisés (National Agency for Secure Documents) (ANTS) may have compromised users’ personal data.

The agency, which manages applications for official identity documents, detected the security incident on 15 April. According to the ministry, the breach could involve data belonging to both individuals and professionals. Officials say that the affected information includes names, email addresses, and dates of birth.

A report has been submitted to the Paris public prosecutor’s office in line with Article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, with a view to opening an investigation. Efforts are ongoing to directly inform users concerned.

The ministry also noted that the breach does not involve supplementary documents submitted during application procedures, such as attachments, and that the exposed data cannot be used to gain unauthorised access to user accounts.

Founded in 2007, ANTS is responsible for processing applications and issuing official documents, including biometric passports, national identity cards, residence permits, and driving licences.
