The tragic incident occurred on Friday afternoon around 5pm, France Bleu reports.

Two other children were playing in the river without issues, but the 13-year-old victim was taken away by the current after diving underwater.

The news site reports that a friend jumped into the water in vain to try and rescue the boy. The body of the boy was found by emergency services later that afternoon, near a bridge 200 metres downstream from where he had been playing.

Six people were treated for shock, including friends and family.
