Around 8.20am, two cars crashed head-on in a motorway construction area. All passengers were severely injured. A small child had to be resuscitated on site and was flown to hospital by the Air Rescue. Police later confirmed that despite the successful resuscitation, the two-year old later passed away in hospital.
It is still unclear what led to the accident, which caused an 8-kilometre tailback. Another accident was caused due to the traffic jam, resulting in one further hospitalisation.
In the same area later that morning, a truck crashed into another truck parked on the hard shoulder. The driver’s cab came off and caught fire, with the driver being stuck. Despite successful resuscitation here too, the driver later passed away in hospital.
