A major security operation targeting the French motorways A31 and A4 was launched last Wednesday. Officers from Moselle, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse and the Vosges regions targeted the main tolls of the region and have already had some success.

The operation, which has already been labelled “a clear success” by the authorities, allowed officers to intercept a motorist on the A31 who was transporting no less than 53 kg of cannabis resin and 100 grams of amphetamines.

Before the big catch, the police identified an individual who was an irregular migrant in France and detained multiple people in possession of narcotics. Furthermore, a person targeted by a memorial judgement was also apprehended and placed in custody for four months. Finally, the authorities also caught a man who was hiding €5,000 in cash in his dashboard.

General Didier Marconnet, the second commander of the Région de gendarmerie du Grand Est, insisted that the A31 and the A4 still remain the main axes for the transport of weapons, narcotics, illegal immigration and stolen goods. This is why the police regularly targets this area.
